This is a bug report. Not sure if the problem is inherent in the Google Maps or in the way askaro is leveraging the data it is getting back from the Google Maps when the user navigates to the area where they want to ask a question. I don't know how prevalent this is in other areas of the world, but here is a simple test script. Search for "Irvine" (a city in California). askaro correctly finds it and displays the correct area approximately equally to the city on the map. At the same time the prompt on the left says: "There are no questions in this area of Central Coast yet." It should be "There are no questions in this area of Irvine yet." Now drag the map just slightly to the East. The prompt changes to "There are no questions in this area of El Toro yet." What's "El Toro"? Sure, it's a name of a famed Marine Corps Air Station (now closed), and also a historic name of a tract of land in this area, before it was divided into cities and developed. Change your search to "Laguna Beach" (a nearby city, pretty famous in its own right) and the prompt changes to "There are no questions in this area of South Coast yet." No matter how closely you zoom into the city, the prompt remains "There are no questions in this area of South Coast yet." Clearly, the algorithm behind askaro is using a very high level locality identifier provided by Google. I would be extremely surprised if a more selective level of identifiers (down to city and neighborhood) was not available from Google, maybe askaro is just not selecting the right data? Here's another example: search for "California". The map shows what must be the geographical center of California, but at zoom level 12, which shows a small and fairly nondescript area of the state. The prompt reads "There are no questions in this area of Sierra yet." Again, this is probably accurate on some level, but not helpful because it is to narrow relative to the intented query ("California") and too broad for the actual area shown. Hope this is something that can be tweaked to make the best use of the rich geodata provided by Google Maps. I will be happy to test the tweaks as applicable to my area.
